ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ East Summer Camp Week 1

July 8, 2024

KESD Summer Camp started on July 1st, with our largest student enrollment yet! Students have already visited Powers Park, the Bread & Puppet Museum, played sports, biked, started Art and STEM projects, played music, and there is so much more to come.

This year students will be able to work on math, literacy, STEM, art and music in the mornings with teachers and group leaders. The Cobleigh Library bookmobile visits each class once per week for students and staff to check out books and all elementary students have an on-campus visit from the VINS traveling raptor program. In the afternoons elementary students rotate through swim lessons at Powers Park, gymnastics at ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ gymnastics, sports with KESD PE teacher Sam Cota, storytelling with Vermont artists Michael Caduto and Simon Brooks, and music with local musician Patrick Ross. Middle School students choose between mountain biking with ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ Trails and ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ Cycling & Experiences, sports with KESD Athletics, Makerspace, Bakerspace, Swimming at VSU-Lyndon, Circus Arts with local artist Marci Diamond, fishing, creative writing, Rock Band and Junior Weather Observers with the Mount Washington Observatory. Every Friday all students attend a field trip to the Cobleigh Library, VINS, Fairbanks, Montshire, Jay Peak Waterpark, Northwoods Stewardship Center, Whales Tale Water Park, or the Cog Railway with Mount Washington Observatory. From this list, we know that KESD Summer Camp exposes students to new opportunities in their communities and develops personalized interests and new experiences. Our survey data for the past three years shows the importance of this program to families and the impact on student’s health and wellness. This year, we are using our new iReady tool to track pre and post camp data in reading and math - our hope is that this data shows that Summer Camp helps students maintain what they learned during the regular school year and through the summer into the next school year. We have over 400 students attending each day and are excited for a full and enriching summer!
